The Greek Scientific Apitherapy Center announces the successful completion of the 6th Apitherapy Congress & Workshops, held over the period of March 26-29. The congress included three days seminars for various medical specialties and exhibition. It took place at the Institute of Agronomic Sciences, Ktima Syggrou, Maroussi – Athens, Greece.
The core of MELIAMA '09 was in health. More than 300 people participated to this event with impressive the presence of various medical specialties (pathologists, cardiologists, rheumatologists, homeopaths) as well as dieticians, nutritionists, pharmacists and other health related professions.
The seminars that took place at March 26, 27 and 28 attracted a lot of scientists & physicians who where interested in learning the healing properties of the honey bee products. The proved and documented effects of the beehive products now seem to convince the medical community to use them.
This year, MELIAMA congress was the "fertile" soil that allowed scientists, pharmacists and beekeepers to exchange knowledge and expertise bringing to the light important researches that promote human quality of life.
Mr. Papastavrou, the President of the Greek Hellenic Export Organization began the congress with greetings, and Dimitrios Selianakis, the President of the Greek Scientific Apitherapy Center and member of the Apitherapy Commission of Apimondia, continued with the speech "The Soul of Apitherapy" about the real meaning of Apitherapy and the essential effect on human beings.
Following was a presentation on "Colony Collapse Disorder: A universal phenomenon demanding explanation & immediate action" by Mrs Katerina Karatasou, OMSE Veterinary.
The congress encompass three sessions: Health & Diet, Research & Developments, History.
Session 1 - Health & Diet. Two expert scientists spoke: Prof. Roch Domerego. Biologists, President of the European Company of Apitherapy, talked about Synergy of Apitherapy , Phytotherapy and Homeopathy. Dr. Theodore Cherbulliez, MD , President of the Apitherapy Commission of Apimondia, presented Arthritis & Bee Venom. These two scientists also taught at the seminars.
The above scientists where surrounded by important Greek personalities. Mr. Demosthenis Papamethodiou, MD, Neurologist, Homeopath, Vice President of Hellenic Homeopathic Medical Society analysed the Importance of Honey Bee in Homeopathy. Mr . Evaggelos Zoubaneas, Dietician-Íutritionist M.Sc., Vice President of the Greek Scientific Center of Apitherapy analyzed Voulimia and how to deal with it using honey bee products. Mr Paraskevas Papachristos, Dietician-Íutritionist M.Sc.,presented the subject "Honey: Protection Shield against Cardio-vascular diseases"
Session 2 - Research & Developments: Dr. Paraskevi Moutsatsou , Clinical Biochemist, Prof. Medical Dep. EKPA, spoke about the Greek Honey : Effects on Biology and Chemical Composition. Mrs Lina Vletsi MD Pulmonologist, Homeopathic presented "Latest Studies On Apitherapy"
Session 3 - History: Mr Vardis Dilis, Scientific AssociateAthens Medical University, Health & hygiene/ Epidemiology Dep., talked on "Traditional Greek food". Mr Emmanouel Mitakis , General Secretary of the Greek Society of Ethnopharmakology (E.E.E.) and Mr Stylianos Kakagiannis, Pharmasist, Vice President of E.E.E. presented the "Apitherapy: Myths and Facts".
Mr George Mavrofridis, Archaeologist and Beekeeper talked about the "Unsmoked Honey and its special qualities" and finally Mr. Sideris Tsiminis, Beekeeper, gave information on the "Production of Greek beekeeping products and their use on Apitherapy".
